Welcome to PCAS Genesis Bible Study

Our Winter 2022 Study is Genesis! You will find our discussion fodder here - labeled by Week #.

We meet Tuesdays, 9-10:15ish am on Zoom.

I'm using the blog format instead of a handout attached to an email as an experiment in sharing. This blog is accessible to anyone. There are those who can't be with us on Tuesday mornings, or are interested in following along for self-study or personal devotion.

I also know this format works better for those who read on their devices - this is readable on a phone screen, looks great, and the scripture references are links that will open a new window with the reading.

Intro to Genesis

Genesis is one really big genealogy project. All of Genesis is one family story - From Adam and Eve to Joseph, every main character is related. Through this family, God establishes a covenant relationship with God's people that we still enjoy today.

Genesis is a story of foundations and roots, matriarchs and patriarchs of the faith.Through their stories we very quickly become familiar with the pattern of sin, consequence, and grace that becomes the overarching narrative of all of scripture and all of human life. In Genesis, the family stories feed the narrative of God's redeeming work as God responds to human failing by drawing faith and ethical boundaries for the health and well-being of God's people moving forward. The key word for those boundaries and for understanding Genesis is 'covenant'.

Because Genesis is the 2nd longest book of the Bible and it is packed full of stories we know and we want to know, our study this time around will take a bit broader of a viewpoint. One could easily spend a year's worth of weekly study going through the 50 chapters. We will zoom out significantly to trace the main themes and the Genesis family tree in 8 weeks.

These are my thoughts, generated from my own study and preparation, but as always - our conversations on Tuesday always just go wherever the Spirit leads!

Blessings,

Pastor Katja
